Ballet at the beach

Photographing a ballerina has been a dream since a long time ago.

When I was studying photography back in Venezuela at Roberto Mata Taller de Fotografía  one of my teachers showed us the work of a photographer who shot the ballerinas at a studio in New York (sadly I can’t remember ir or find it anywhere), and I was hooked by it.

Since that day, I always wanted to photograph a ballerina.

ballerina shoot mafe roig

A few months ago I got introduced to Claudia. She is a ballerina from Venezuela and we did a photo shoot filled with magic! Here are some of my favourite shots:

She was so graceful and made my work so easy. The sunlight worked in our favor and I managed to give the photos a really soft look and feel.

It was a photo shoot filled with peace and sea breeze. Hope is the first of many to come :).

Have a beautiful week, everyone!

Good Afternoon, Barcelona

Mafe roig photoshoot for weed girls online magazine

I took this photo for my job and I have to say It’s been one of my favorite photo sessions so far. I hope you like it. We did it in a small flat in one of the most popular streets in Barcelona city. And it all just clicked.

Every time I take photos I always say there is a warm up time. For me and for the model/person I’m photographing. But this time… I don’t know. It was different. It was great.

I wanted to share it with you because I’m really happy about how the images turned out.

You can see the full photoshoot by clicking here (here, here, here!)

Have you ever had a session like that? Where you felt that everthing worked and ended up so happy about the results?

Let me know 😉

Good afternoon, from Barcelona.

Portraits Again

Hello, everyone! it’s been a little while since I last posted, but I’ve been kind of busy lately. But a good kind of busy because I’ve been taking a lot of photos!

photoshoot in barcelona

This is Ruth. We did a photoshoot in the lovely streets and beaches of Barcelona, Spain a couple of weeks ago. We decided we wanted the photos to have a urban look and feel. So we went to construction sites, did some shots there, strolled down big avenues and then finished at the beach!

Is the frist time I do a photoshoot like this one and I’m really happy with the results 🙂 She was a great model. We actually did another photoshoot yesterday and I can’t wait to show it to you :).

Meanwhile, here is a little gallery with some other images.

Finally, portraits again

Lately I have been taking to many pictures of nature and landscapes. And, although I’ve found that I like it more than what I thought, I must admit i’m a fan of portrait photography .

Recently I started looking for models to do a photo shoot. It’s been too long, too much for my taste, since I last did portraits,  and I was desperate. However, after several proposals and a request via my Facebook page, someone answered my plea.

Black & White portrait

My cousin, Anna, volunteered as a model. We decided to use the beach as our stage and do a very natural session. We started about five o’clock in the afternoon, when the sun was beginning to set and that allowed us to take pictures with quite a variety of light effects.

For the wardrobe we went for full white clothing, contrasting with well defined red lips and the many colors of her eyes. Always having in mind the feeling we wanted to achieve with these photos, the light, the color of the sky and the breeze came together in perfect harmony creating the mood we needed.

It had been some time since I last did portraits so it took me a few clicks to get warm. But after a while everything started to flow, and without realizing it, I spent two hours photographing Ana. Here is a small gallery of my favorites.

Portraits is a style that I definitely want to perfect. There is still much to learn and I will continue practicing.
