Week-end

These past few weeks have been a little blue for me. I don’t why really, I was jut feeling weird. I just wanted a massive amount of family time, friends, books, music, puzzles, nice food, a country side house and time to relax.

Gladly, this weekend was very nice. We didn’t do anything out of the ordinary and I think that was the best.

We spent a lot of time at home with Mango. We also visited some dear friends, watched some series and rested. I wanted to go out with camera to do a photo-walk but the weather was menacing with black clouds and cold breeze that couldn’t mean anything else but storm. However, we ended up having great, blue skies all weekend and I only took indoor photos (shame on me).

I don’t now. I think I was just having a really nice time just staying home. But I do feel like I want to go out, camera in hand and get lost around the city taking photos. I’m also planning some photo shoot with friends soon, so that’s very exciting!

How was your weekend?

Hope you have a wonderful week 🙂

Edge

edge weekly photo challenge

I took this photo a while ago in Sitges, a very small town about half an hour away from Barcelona. We were walking around, which besides eating, it’s pretty much everything we do when we go there, and I saw this man standing on the Edge of the rocks fishing on a very cold and windy day.

I love it there. I find it nice and peaceful. Which is very weird considering it’s a major turistic spot. But every time I’ve been there has been amazing. I think that’s because I always go in very good company.

We have plans to visit it again soon.

Do you have a place that brings you peace when you go there and when you think about it?

Ballet at the beach

Photographing a ballerina has been a dream since a long time ago.

When I was studying photography back in Venezuela at Roberto Mata Taller de Fotografía  one of my teachers showed us the work of a photographer who shot the ballerinas at a studio in New York (sadly I can’t remember ir or find it anywhere), and I was hooked by it.

Since that day, I always wanted to photograph a ballerina.

A few months ago I got introduced to Claudia. She is a ballerina from Venezuela and we did a photo shoot filled with magic! Here are some of my favourite shots:

She was so graceful and made my work so easy. The sunlight worked in our favor and I managed to give the photos a really soft look and feel.

It was a photo shoot filled with peace and sea breeze. Hope is the first of many to come :).

Have a beautiful week, everyone!

Tips to improve mobile photography!

Let’s face it! The camera we have with us ALL THE TIME is the one in our mobile phones. Because we take them everywhere with us. Because is light, compact and easy to carry around.

But most of the time the photos we take with our phones don’t usually come out as we expect them to. Either it is because we are way to used to using our DSRL cameras, or whether it is because we have a hard time with phone photography in general, I wanted to share some tips based on my own experience. You can take great photos with your phone!

how to improve mobile photos

Here are some tips on how to improve your phone photography:

Natural light is your friend!

Sunlight is the best, most beautiful light for your photos. Try to avoid taking photos with flash and lamps. It’s very difficult to manage a well illuminated image with artificial light. So any time you want to take a photo with your phone, turn the flash off and walk to the nearest window. Either is a photo of your meal, a selfie or your cat, natural light is alwas the best option. A falsh will make your subject flat and create strange shadows and non-flaterring shapes. Natural light, specially the one in the late afternoon, is soft and very flattering.

Use the zoom

Mobile phone camera lenses tend to have very wide angles. Sometimes that makes it difficult to find a different point of view or a good frame composition. That’s why it’s very wise to remember that we have the option to zoom in and play with it to find different angles!

Take care of the background

I know. This one applies to overall photography. BUT, when it comes to mobile photography we don’t get tired of seeing photos in bathrooms where the toilet decorates the background. I think this happens because, in general, people are not careful with the quality of their phone photos. So, please, when you decided to take a photo for your Instagram account or your profile, be conscious of what appears on the background. It will improve the final result SO much and you will be happier with it too!

Develop your photos

By this I don’t mean to just throw an Instagram filter. Most phones (all of them) have a few, very basic photo developing tools. After you snap, take a few minutes to play with these tools and give some love to your images. You can usually adjust exposure, light temperature, highlights and shadows. On top of giving a more final look, your images will be more personalized and you can begin developing your own style.

I hope these few advices are of use to you! It’s important that we know how to take full advantage of our phone’s cameras as we have it with us at all times. i have to admit it kind of scares me to take photos with my phone sometimes, because I don’t practice it very often and I’m afraid I wont get the result I was hoping for. But when I decided to write this post I took a few minutes to get into it and managed great shots.

Ir’s all about keeping your curious eye, Learn and practice every day!

Looking for treasures

A while ago I mentioned I was taking part in a photographic treasure hunt started by Venezuelan photographer Jackie Rueda.

Shadows

At the beginning of summer she proposed 12 different subjects:

  1. A street artist
  2. Shadows
  3. A gate
  4. The color yellow
  5. A bird
  6. Love
  7. Speed
  8. Steps
  9. A stolen (a photo you take of a stranger without him/her noticing and without their permission)
  10. Something written on the floor
  11. A puddle
  12. A bell tower

The point of the activity was to make you go out of your house and roam the city looking for these 12 treasures! I completed the task and I want to share my findings with you:

Barcelona’s Treasures

Taking part of this activity made me go out of my house when I usually would’ve stayed in. It made me really see in order to find the treasures.

Day 7: Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

Yesterday was a very active day. We roamed the city with our bikes for almost 6 hours under the sun, then we went for a late (very late) swim at the beach and endend up going to be almost at 4 in morning. So today we nedeed to rest!

I slept a LOT, played Zelda Twilight Princess HD (which was getting dust in a drawer) and hubby cooked a delicious lunch. Then we dedicated the rest of the afternoon to Mango! We took him to the park so he could freely run and play. He is now exhausted next to the bed, and so I’m I.

This is the last day of my One Post a Day Challenge! This week was amazing and I’m so happy I made it! 🙂

One post a day challenge!

It’s time to catch up on reading, some video games, to do puzzles, sleep in, cook new recipes, drink wine and watch movies.

It’s vacations time!

I have a week off work and I thought it’s a great opportunity to catch up with things I love and one of them is blogging! So I decided to set a small challenge for me and do One Post a Day for a Week!

It’s a way to keep creativity and photos flowing. So I’m going to share photos of things I do during this beautiful week and tell some stories about them.

I took these today in the afertoon and Mango was very curious about what these tiny thing in the bowl were. I love how curious he is about everything so I decied to capture that small moment :).

If you feel encouraged to join me during this self-imposed challenge, please let me know! I would love to see you photos, read your blogs and share them at the end of the week!

A piece of advice

mafe roig photo blog

The more things you like, the more you will enjoy life.

This has to be the best piece of advice I’ve ever received. Hubby said it to me a long time ago, and his father was the one who shared it with him first. So, in a way, even if I didn’t have the opportunity to meet him, is like he said it to me :).

If many things make you happy, if you enjoy sunsets, if you enjoy the breeze while walking to work, if you like many types of music and food, if you enjoy the little things, rather than criticize all and finding flaws with everything, the more you will enjoy life!

So like as many things as you can and enjoy life!

This is my first contribution to the Discover Challenge, hope you liked it!

Three years of blogging and then…!

WordPress has happily reminded me that today, three years ago I registered and started my blogging adventure.

IMG_1445

As soon as I realised that, I knew it was blogging time! But what should I talk about on my WordPress blogger anniversary?

About the past? About the three years I’ve been blogging? Mmm… could be.

Then I thought that, even though the past is extremely important to shape who we are going to be in the future, I decided I wanted to celebrate the present.

And then…

….I blanked. I stopped and found myself looking at the nothingness and my mind entered in a very complicated vortex of life questions. What am I celebrating? I’m doing right now what makes me happy? Why am I sitting here right now? What do I really want to be doing? What have I donde these past three years?

*Sigh…

I really don’t know! So, for now all I’m going to do is share a few compilation of photos I’ve taken during this three years and leave the important life questions for another time.

All of these images represent and remind me of a specific time of my life. They all have a story  behind them and blogging has helped me keep those memories in full color for all this time.

Happy blogging, everyone!
