YouTube Photography Channel

I’ve been meaning to open a photography YouTube channel for a while. However, I couldn’t come up with what to do on it. Finally, after some time I oficially opened my YouTune Channel!

I say “oficially” because I uploaded some videos previously from roadtrips and stuff, but now I now where I want to go and what I want to do with my YouTube channel. So, for the premiere I made a sort of behind the scenes video of my latest photo shoot for my friend’s web Vestier de Moda.

Hope you enjoy it!

I will upload more photos of this shooting here on my blog and on my Instagram account!

Together in Barcelona

If you’ve been following my blog for some time and have stopped by my About Page, you’ve probably read and remember this phrase:

And my biggest wish is that my family, my friends and I can all live in the same city again.

Well, I can tell you know that it’s no longer there. 🙂

My wish came true exactly one month ago. On May 19th my parents finally moved to live in Barcelona and we are know 1,7Km away from each other!

I spent some time thinking about what kind of photo I would take to commemorate this event, and one night when I was almost falling asleep I though about our feet! Everyone has a very unique way to stand and shoe style, so I though this would be a fun and original family portrait.

It was taken at my parents new home after celebrating my brother’s birthday.

Together in Barcelona.

Fairy Lights

Mafe Roig Photo Blog Mango

I recently started watching YouTube video tutorials about photography. It has been hard for me to admit it, but I’ve been feeling kind of stuck with my photography. That’s why I decided to look for tutorials, videos and stuff that could help me bring my photos to another level.

I thought I wanted to master Adobe Lightroom. So that’s what I started looking when I had a revelation. I discovered that I need to experiment more and bring new ideas to the photoshoots instead of to the post-processing of my photos.

So I started to watch videos of photoshoots ideas instead of developing and editing tutorials. I came across a YouTube channel I really, really liked and almost binged watch all of the videos. It’s Jessica’s Kobeissi’s Channel.

She’s a great fashion and portrait photographer and besides really enjoying her videos, I was inspired by her work and her attitude. So I decided I just need to practice more, be more constant with my photography and less afraid to try new things.

Right now I’m doing very little. I’m not even having one photo shoot a month (which sucks) and translates to blog abandonment and social media neglect.

I’m going to try and do at least one short photo shoot a week and try new developing tools and techniques, keep watching tutorials and keep learning. The first step was to buy some fairy lights and try new, fun things with them! Just a the photo I took of Mango.

I will keep sharing my progress with you :). Hope you have a wonderful week!

Doggies Park Day

Mango made a new friend and her name is Cloe.

Mafe Roig photo blog

She is a three months old frenchie and they became friends from the first sight. They spent a whole night playing around the apartment so we decided to take them to the park together the next day.

Taking photos of two puppies playing is a huge challenge. Even with tons of light and a very high shutter speed, is extremely difficult to get good angles and a nice framing. But, as I’ve said before, sometimes those technical stuff are not really so important.

A big and very important part of photography is to capture moments that you are passionate about. And this day, this moment was one of those!

I also did a short video to keep practicing! Hope you like it 🙂

Cheers!

Today is our 4th year anniversary of moving to Barcelona and I like to make it a tradition to write something special every year and to share my favorite photos I posted on my blog so far. I’ve only missed it one year so far and I surely didn’t want that to happen again this year, so here we are!

Hubby and I were talking about these past 4 years this morning on our way to work. We were remembering the moment we were at the airport right before boarding, the moment we made a flight scale in Frankfurt and when we finally landed in Barcelona. It feels so weird to think about that moment now. I was telling hubby I think I entered in some kind of survival mode. I knew I had to step up to the occasion. That we were pretty much on our own and we had to do what had to be done.

I think it didn’t really hit me that we left until we moved to our own apartment. When we were done doing things we had to do as a priority, like finding a place to live and get all the documentation we needed, it was the moment to start living. And I felt kind of lost. With time, that feeling, that fear diluted. Weird enough, if feels both a long and a short time since we’ve been here. But with all that said, hubby and I toasted today for these past 4 years and many more to come.

Here’s a compilation of some of my favorite photos form this last year. Enjoy!

Warmer days are coming!

Mafe Roig Photography Blog

The Spring is officially here! Wohooo!

I’ve been over cold for quite a while now and I’m eager for warmer weather. I want to put away the coats and scarfs and feel the sun on my skin again.

We went to the beach a couple of weeks ago and it was quite nice then. But this past few days rain, clouds, wind and lower temperatures have taken over the city. So I thought to share this beach photo to warm my heart until better weather comes along.

🙂

Happy Mango

Happy Mango.

Happy Spring.

Happy day!

Even though sometimes we don’t get the perfect framing, or the perfect exposure, or the perfect light, some photos are perfect for what they are, for what they make us feel and for what they represent. And this photo, to me, is perfect 🙂

Sometimes is important to not let technicalities get in our own way of really enjoying what we do. Perfection means something different for everyone and for everything.

No light, no photos

mafe roig photo blog

It’s been too long since I took my camera out of its bag. I haven’t taken photos is such a long time I’m in physical pain.

Right now it’s getting dark really early and I’m at work during daylight time so when I get home is already too dark for photos. And if you know me, you know I’m a sucker for natural light. So my camera has been sleeping in its bag for a while.

I was so desperate that yesterday I grabbed my camera out as soon as I got home and took, literally, three photos of Mango and a couple more of a plant before it was too dark.

It’s something at least! I’m planning some photoshoots for the upcoming weekends but the weather forecast is not good. It’s been raining a LOT in Barcelona lately so that makes the whole situation more complicated.

So I thought I could at least share an old photo and my frustration with you until I can go out with my camera again.

Happy Birthday, Mango!

Mango is turning 1 year old today!

He’s been with us since he was two and a half months, when he was a fluffly puppy.

I remember the day he arrived he was so scared que stayed in the same corner of the house all day like a little ball of hair. He event flinched when hubby or I came close to him. Now, he sleeps with us, he cuddles and he asks to be pet all day long.

I have to say, I’ve learned SO much from Mango. He just amazes me every day and I wish we can celebrate many, many birthdays together 🙂

Here are some of my favorite photos of Mango.

Happy birthday, Mango! 🙂

Rediscovering love for black and white photography

I’ve mentioned before how I only did black and white when I started with photography. Besides making me a little bit afraid of color photography, It also made me resent black and white. It’s like when your mom forces you to eat something, then you don’t want to eat it ever again. You know?

Well, that happened to me. However, little by little I’ve started to find love for B&W photography again and I wanted to share this image with you.

black and white photography mafe roig blog

Even when I took it I imagined it in black and white. I also did a color version, but I love in in monochrome. I feel it really enhances her features and her beautiful freckles.

Some photos just work in color and some just work in black and white. I plan to write a little about this in the future, but I’m waiting until I have enough examples to explain myself.

How do you feel about color VS. black and white photography? Let me know, I’ll be happy to hear what you think!
